Karen Gwyer (US) has a small cluster of releases on Opal Tapes and No Pain In Pop. Rather than making straightforward club music, Gwyer assimilates house and techno tropes into warm, hypnotic slow burners. On her 2012 album opener Sugar Tots, African beats set the tempo, joined by molasses-thick synths and glassy bells that chime finely somewhere in the distance.
