Yoneda Lemma & Anna Mikkola

Paradiso, Main Hall

Yoneda Lemma (aka You Need a Lemon, sometimes Yoni Dilemma) is a quasi-causal brainchild for abstract exploration, experimental research, and a platform for productions, plotted by Canadian-born archaeologist, composer/producer and feminist thinker, Katrina Burch. Yoneda’s complex harmonic layers dig into sound, shifting sonic elements from one fiction to another. Her artistic projects are textual and musical compositions that interweave poetry on decay with Xenofeminism and the erotic-synaesthetic encounter in electronic music composition. She has exhibited her work internationally, in Berlin (V4ULT), Paris (Le Cube), London (Tate Britain), and elsewhere. Katrina publishes with The Passive Collective, MIT Press, and Merve. She is a collaborator in the international collectives Laboria Cuboniks, d-n-e, LATRINE, INFRA, and Asounder. Artist and curator Anna Mikkola’s audiovisual performances engage with the tensions between humans, nature and technology. Recent work has involved mapping and creating structures through which gestures are performed. Her work has been exhibited at INDEX 19 (Stockholm), Lighthouse (Brighton), TOVES (Copenhagen), SIC (Helsinki), and Jupiter Woods (London). In 2013 Mikkola co-founded V4ULT, an art platform that explores spatial boundaries and interfaciality. In 2014 V4ULT edited the book a gesture waves us on answering our own wave, which was published by NERO. In 2014 Mikkola co-founded Human Interference Task Force, an art project that conducts research into methods for approaching what appears alien to human perception. She has co-curated projects at CCS Bard (Hudson, NY) and at the Museum of Finnish Architecture (Helsinki), and has lectured at various international institutions such as the New Museum (New York).
