Chino Amobi
Chino Amobi
The music of Chino Amobi, co-founder of the art collective and record label NON, offers a critique of culture through the exposition of sonic beauty and spectacular dissonance. ‘The Virginia-based artist’s remix of Michael Jackson’s single They Don’t Care About Us locates the song in a whirlwind of street-level chaos. The original was a protest song written in the context of the 1992 LA riots. Amobi’s remix resonates with both the massacre in Charleston and the deportations of black Dominicans in the Dominican Republic’ (AdHoc). Apart from his releases on NON Records, a collective of African artists from the continent and the diaspora, Amobi released his EP Anya’s Garden on UNO, the New York label whose roster includes Arca and Fatima Al Qadiri.
