Installing The Crossing, HC Gilje. Photo by Annette Wolfsberger
The Crossing is a light-motion installation by HC Gilje outside Zapolyarny (RU). It explores and re-activates an abandoned construction site using light and motion: ephemeral light meets physical structures. The installation shows Gilje’s interest in motion itself, how it passes through spaces, objects, bodies and landscapes. The work is partly inspired by a quote from the essay
Motor Geometry by the Dutch architect Lars Spuybroek: ‘We no longer look at objects, whether static or moving, but at movement as it passes through the object.’
Commissioned by Sonic Acts and Hilde Methi for Dark Ecology. Thanks to the Childrens' Art School in Nikel for providing work space.
HC Gilje (NO) works with real-time environments, installations, live performance, set design and experimental video. Gilje’s main interest lies within the perspectives on how different media resonate within a space, both physically and mentally. Gilje has presented his work via different channels throughout the world: in concert venues, theatres and cinemas, galleries, festivals, outdoors and through several international DVD releases.
