But the more powerful that light, the more difficult it is to see what lies in the shadows around that circle of light. Saskia Sassen (US) is Professor of Sociology, Columbia University. Among her many books, translated into over 20 languages, are Territory, Authority, Rights (2008) and The Global City (2001). The recipient of multiple honorary degrees and other awards, she was selected as one of Foreign Policy's 100 Top Global Thinkers of 2011.
