HC Gilje – Radiant (live)

Radiant is an audiovisual work comprising a white laser beam moving over a large surface covered with phosphorescent pigment. The laser draws lines and curves that are only visible for a short moment before disappearing. But the beams of light leave traces: the light-capturing phosphorescent pigment emits a slowly fading green shimmer, and the simple visual forms that result from the short bursts of light projection are layered into a constantly evolving web of green shimmering lines. Sound programming: David Kiers The live performance of Radiant was presented at Paradiso, Amsterdam, as part of Sonic Acts Festival 2019.

Commissioned by Sonic Acts as part of Re-Imagine Europe, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. HC Gilje is a Norwegian artist who, for over a decade, has been working on an over-arching project called Conversations with Spaces (also published as a book in 2017). His aim is to find different ways of transforming spaces using light, projection, sound and motion: ephemeral media that create temporary transformations of physical spaces. HC Gilje has moved between installation, experimental video, live performance and set design since he graduated from the intermedia department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Trondheim in 1999. He was a member of the video-impro trio 242.pilots and was also the visual motor of dance company Kreutzerkompani. www.hcgilje.com Presentations Premiere Sonic Acts Festival 2019 23 February 2019 Paradiso Amsterdam www.sonicacts.com Stereolux 29 May 2019 Nantes, France www.stereolux.org
