This film is a survey of the industrial landscape of the Russian harbour city Murmansk and the surrounding Arctic tundra. It is both a documentation and an investigation of perception. The vertical format of the film intensifies the sensation of being in a strange environment.
Lukas Marxt (AT) is a an artist whose main goal is to capture time. Deserted places and violent geographies such as oil rigs or Arctic coastlines provide opportunities to pursue this quest. In 2012 Marxt was involved in The Arctic Circle Residency Program, which meant he could sail through the desolate Arctic trenches for weeks, resulting in several films. Marxt often uses the aesthetics of documentary filmmaking.
