Violence (US) began as an art-house project by multi-instrumentalist Olin Caprison in 2010. Caparison composes, performs, and produces their music, known for its complexity that often shifts between and combines multiple styles in single works. After contributing to compilations for Total Freedom and Mykki Blanco’s Dogfood Music Group, their debut album, A Ruse of Power, explores themes of race, gender, ethics, and religion and was released by NON Worldwide. Violence’s lyrical themes resonate from experiences of growing up in Baltimore to meditations on life from primary viewpoints of various cultures’ intersections.
