Session 2: The World Beyond Humans

Thursday 26 February

14:00 - 15:15

Paradiso, Main Hall

In the book The World Without Us Alan Weisman reflects on what the planet could look like if all the humans disappeared simultaneously. Trees and plants would reduce cities to rubble, but radioactive waste and bronze statues would remain. The question of how we can think about a world detached from the human mind has been taken up with vigour in recent philosophy that tries to do justice to the autonomy of objects, and does not privilege human beings over other entities.
